Mithamain Upazila (kishoreganj district) with an area of 222.92 sq km, is bounded by Itna and Ajmiriganj upazilas on the north, Austagram upazila on the south, Baniachang and Austagram upazilas on the east, Karimganj and Nikli upazilas on the west. Noted rivers are Dhanu and Kalai; depressions: Boragop, Haturia, Deoduria and Nikli Beel.

It has a population of 9094; male 54.06%, female 45.94%. Literacy rate among the town people is 24.2%; male 32.1%, female 14.8%. The town has one dakbungalow.

Mithamain thana was turned into an upazila in 1983. The upazila consists of 6 union parishads, 59 mouzas and 129 villages.

As of 1991 Bangladesh census, Population 108204; male 51.79%, female 48.21%; Muslim 90.31%, Hindu 9.07%, Buddhist 0.12%, Christian 0.12% and others 0.38%.
