The Clemson site produces nylon fibers for carpets and urethane resins used to make rigid and flexible foams. These foams provide excellent insulating materials for use in refrigerators and freezers and are also found in furniture and bedding applications as well as automotive seating.

The Fibers division of BASF Corp. added a new multimillion-dollar facility to its Clemson, S.C., plant to increase its overall capacity of bulked continuous filament (BCF) nylon by 20 per cent by the early 1990s. The first segment of the two-part expansion began during the first half of 1988 and was completed in 1989.
