This new elevated viaduct opened in late 2014 as part of the Trinity River Corridor Project. While the six lane road is much wider than the two-way road that was there before, the old Sylvan Avenue Bridge wasn't really a bridge at all--it was a mostly surface level road with three separate bridges that closed off in floods, as the road would be completely submerged. Part of the reason for this design was so a city park could be accessed, which includes walking trails and a boat ramp. The new design includes a new connecting ramp to access the park.
