Eureka Inn (Eureka, California)

USA / California / Eureka / Eureka, California / 7th Street, 518
hotel, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places

The 150 room Eureka Hotel was opened in 1922. It is significant historically because of its Tudor Revival construction and the fact that there is no building comparable in size with similar construction from the same time period. The hotel was constructed to bring in tourism after the completion of the nearby Redwood Highway in the 1920s.

Since its opening in 1922, the hotel has served the community as a hotel and a social event place hosting many private organizations and public forums. Reservations can still be made at this hotel and their contact information is available online at: www.eurekainn.com/Pages/default.aspx

  • One of the bars in the Eureka Inn (I think it was called the Palm Room) was a truly depressing place to drink. The bossa nova bands played tunes reminiscent of the Leisure Suit Larry theme song and elderly women with perfectly coiffed hair wearing silk/polyester blend pantsuits lifted glass after unsteady-handed glass of cheap chardonnay to wrinkled lips. The martinis, however, left nothing to be desired.
