McKinleyville is an unincorporated community and a Census Designated Place in Humboldt County, California. Its population was 15,177 at the 2010 census, making it one of the largest unincorporated settlements in the state.

One of the smaller "cities" of Humboldt County, only a couple miles north of Arcata, founded shortly before the end of the 19th century, and renamed in honor of President McKinley shortly after his assassination, McKinleyville is somewhat envious of Arcata's large bronze statue of McKinley, and resentful toward Arcata's current attitude toward the statue.

Considering that McKinleyville had been renamed after the assassinated President by the time the statue was made, some people are baffled that it was placed in a different town only two miles away in the first place.

  • We always heard this town referred to as "Oklahoma-by-the-Sea." Maybe it was because of all the monster pick-ups.
