Official Designation of Chandrabhaga Dam Irrigation Project is " Chandrabhaga Dam , D - 03111 " . However local and popular name is " Chandrabhaga Lake / Chandrabhaga Talav ". It has been mistakenly / locally also called Gulkhed Lake. (On Wikimapia ) .Chandrabhaga Dam was constructed as parts of Irrigation Projects by the Government of Maharashtra in the year 1977.This dam is multipurpose , It is for Irrigation,Hydroelectric,Drinking / Water Supply. It is built on and impounds Chandrabhaga River . Nearest city to dam is Achalpur Taluka Chikaldara in Amravati District of Maharashtra . The dam is an Earth fill Dam .The Length of dam, divided by the spillway in two , is 1573 m ( 5160.761 Feet ) , while the Height of the dam above lowest foundation is 44.7 m ( 146.653 Feet ) . The Project has Ogee type of Spillway . Length of the spillway is 47 m ( 154.199 Feet ). The spillway has 3 Radial type of spillway gates. The Dam's catchment area is 10.465 Thousand Hectors . Maximum / Gross storage capacity is 41.427 MCM. Live storage capacity is 41.248 MCM. Now a days almost all the water bodies make for good picnic spots. Chandrabhaga Lake is also a popular picnic spot for its scenic beauty and a tourist attraction.
