Information about Pentakali Reservoir.
Pentakali Reservoir was created as a result of construction of Pentakali Dam of Pentakali Irrigation Project . Official Designation of the The Project is " Pentakali D - 03109" . Locally this is also known as " Pentakali Talav" or " Pentakali Lake" . Pentakali Project was constructed as part of irrigation projects by the Government of Maharashtra in the year 2003 . Nearest city to dam is Mehkar and the Dam is situated in Mehkar Taluka of Buldana District of Maharashtra . Pentakali Project is built on and impounds Penganga River. The dam is earth fill gravity + masonry dam. The purpose of the dam and project is Irrigation and Hydroelectricity generation . The dam is divided in two portions by the Spillway. The portion Southern side of the spillway is 480 m ( 1574.8 Feet ) + The portion Northern side of the spillway is 331 m ( 1085.96 Feet ) . The Total length of the Dam , including the Spillway is 990 m ( 3248.03 Feet ) . while the height of the dam above lowest foundation is 27.5 m ( 90.22 Feet ) . Length of the the project spillway is 138.5 m ( 454.39 Feet ) .The spillway is Ogee type and has NIne Radial type of spillway gates. . Catchment area of Pentakali Reservoir is 79.435 Thousand Hectors. . Maximum / Gross storage capacity of Pentakali Reservoir is 67.335 MCM. Live storage capacity is 60.065 MCM . Now a days almost all the water bodies make for good picnic spots Pentakali lake is also a popular Tourist attraction for its scenic beauty .
