The Target Center is an indoor arena in Downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. It is sponsored by Target Corporation. The arena has an all-seater capacity of 20,500 with 702 club seats and 68 luxury boxes. It is the home arena of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves and the the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx (since 1999), and was aldo the home of the AFL's Minnesota Fighting Pike in 1996 and the RHI's Minnesota Arctic Blast from 1994-1996.
The Target Center opened in 1990 and was originally owned by the Timberwolves. The City of Minneapolis purchased the arena in 1995. it has been operated by Midwest Entertainment Group since 2004. In 2004, the arena underwent a major renovation that saw the replacement of the original seats plus the addition of new seating. The original scoreboard was replaced with a state-of-the-art 9 x 16 ft video screen and LED signage. Also added were LED signage on the upper fascia, the Club Campria, and improved access for fans with disabilities. A green roof was installed on the roof of the Target Center from June to September 2010.
The Target Center hosted the 1994 NBA All-Star Game, the 1995 NCAA Women's Final Four and UFC 87 in August 2008.
The Target Center can convert into a 2,500-to-7,500-seat theatre known as the U.S. Bank Theater, which contains a movable floor-to-ceiling curtain system that allows the venue to be transformed based on specific show needs.
