Stevens Square/Loring Heights is a neighborhood just across I-94 from downtown Minneapolis. It is named for John Stevens, an early settler in Minneapolis. Stevens Square refers to the area east of Nicollet Avenue, while Loring Heights is west of it. The area developed in the early 20th century and consists primarily of brownstone apartment buildings. As such, it has one of the highest population densities of any neighborhood in the city. The apartment buildings surrounding Stevens Square Park are designated as a historic district by the city, and some of them are on the National Register as well.
