Darndale Courts (Dublin)

Ireland / Dublin / Kinsealy-Drinan / Dublin

Typically strewn with litter and the occasional burned stolen vehicle, these experimental courts were tested in the Darndale social housing estate to see if the idea would be applied to subsequent social housing developments. This idea of a communal space fostering community spirit was based on a large housing scheme called Cricketer's Way, located in Birmingham, England. However, rampant anti-social behaviour in the courts and the resulting complaints resulted in a vast change to the housing plan, and the added security of CCTV and closed laneways within Darndale to enhance public safety. Feral horses commonly graze in the grassy area.
