Onion House (Hagymaház) (Makó)

Hungary / Csongrad / Maky / Makó / Posta utca, 2-4

Makó is renowned for its onions. That is why architect Imre Makovecz designed this edifice evoking the shape of an onion, and the growth of plants. Opened in 1998, the Onion House serves public educational purposes.

"The lower part of the building is deeply grounded, as though it would be growing out of the earth, while the top balances with grace... like the stems of a plant, the supporting frames stretch towards the sky... and inside the towers a smaller inner tower and a larger one seemingly grow", wrote Imre Makovecz about the Onion House.
