Naneghat is ancient commercially constructed Passage to connect food grain rich Plateau of Maharashtra or Deccan through Sahyadri Mountain to West Coast of India. It is believed this route in Sahyadri Mountain was made under Satavahana Dynasty which ruled Northern South India around Sahyadri Mountain 200 BC–1000 AD, the pass was extensively used as a trade route between Shurparak Port (Now Nalasopara near Virar) and Junnar what is closest town to Naneghat on plateau. It is believed the name derived from "Nane" means Coin and Passage through gorge means "Ghat". It is believed that name "Naneghat" is given because use of this passage between Kalyan and Junnar have to pay toll in exchange of currency mostly coins were used during ancient times. There is Stone carved giant pot about 6 feet height seen at top of this pass on plateau.
