Hartson Station was built by Equitable Gas Company in 1952, replacing the smaller Denniston station in the same area. The station compresses gas into the Finleyville, Tepe and Bunola underground storage reservoirs. The name of the facility honors D.P. Hartson, former vice president and general manager of Equitable Gas, who helped develop the company's underground storage program.
