  • I have studied here - a great place.
  • It was formerly known as 'The Royal Institute of Science'.It was founded in 1920 by the British. It was one of the premier research institutions in India. After the independence it is being run by the State Govt. of Maharashtra. It offers undergraduate and post graduate courses in various science subjects and one can pursue doctoral research studies. I have completed post graduation in 'Marine Zoology' in 1986 and earned Ph.d. for my research on shrimps in 1991 from here. - Dr. Rajendra S. Damle

  • I studied in the institute during 1976-82 for my PhD.My guide was Dr.B.C.Haldar who was my guide and also director of Institute .Everybody was scared of him because of his strict nature.I had many friends from different departments like Organic Chemistry,Physical Chemistry,Biochemistry. It will not be any exaggeration if I say that my best period of my life was spent in the Institute . I will not be able to see such period in my life again but now it is not in good shape. We all alumni should come forward and do something to regain it's repute & glory.
  • @Nagesh, No wonder Dr.B.C.Haldar was the Best Director Isc could get, I m really happy of the current director BG kulkarni, you are right about the alumini stuff.. we should be active, There is a active google group in the below link by the noted alumini Miss Ambuja Udas... https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/alumni-ios-mumbai
  • I am proud alumnus of RIS a.k.a. ISc, and have excellent experience of the great education that I received from amazingly knowledgeable Professors, during my two years of B.Sc. (Chemistry and Physics) - in 1974 through 1976. We were so fortunate to be taught by some of the best Professors and great scientists in India. Some of the names that come to mind are, Drs Merchant, Usgaonkar, Galgali, Joshi, Darshane, Katti, Kulkarni and many more. Those were the most wonderful years of my academic and social upbringing. I am thankful to ISc and all brilliant Professors at ISc, for gifting us with the best knowledge. Best Regards! - Deodatta V. Shenai-Khatkhate, Massachusetts, USA.
  • I had an opportunity to re-visit Institute of Science after almost four decades. It brought back many good memories, especially of many good friends within that small student community of those days. Some of my good friends had joined UDCT along with me. Sandeep Nabar, Prasad Nabar, Rajendra Ghag, Suhas Gunishastri and Akshay Buch are the few names that come to mind. Great Institute, and wonderful students....
