The University of Mumbai has one of its two campuses situated in Mumbai; the older is the "Fort Campus", the original campus, while this is a newer one. The name Kalina is derived from the older name "Kole-Kalyan" - "Kalyan of the Kolis"; the campus has been given the name "Vidyanagari" or "City of Knowledge". The Campus is bounded by the C.S.T. road on two sides.

BEST, the City's mass transit system, runs shuttle-bus (Routes 313 & 318) between Santa Cruz and Kurla Railway Stations, on the Western & Central Railway lines, respectively; these shuttle routes pass via the Vidyanagari Campus.

The Campus is entirely deserted by early evening as it has a serious mosquito infestation problem due to the campus being built on wet, swampy reclaimed land.
