Construction Number: 300-6005

The 5th C-141A Starlifter built by Lockheed for the USAF, S/N 61-2779 operated with USAF Military Air Transport Service (MATS) until the late 1970's when she was leased to NASA to serve as an Advanced Radar Test Bed (ARTB) aircraft.

Fitted with an elongated "Universal Nose" common to many contemporary fighter and bomber aircraft, the airframe was loaded with electronic equipment to perform and monitor evaluations of different radar systems. Operated by the 4950th Test Wing throughout her service, the airframe never received the fuselage stretching upgrade to convert it to a C-141B model and as a result was deactivated at the completion of its ARTB duties. Today, the aircraft is preserved as part of the Edwards AFB museum collection.
