Clarkes Gap in Catoctin Mountain. Virginia Route 9 (Charles Town Pike) starts at Gap. Virginia Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) and Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) Railroad Trail (on former route of W&OD Railroad) traverse the Gap. The highest point on the Trail is in the Gap.

Dry Mill Road travels in the Gap on a stone arch above the former railroad's highest point. The arch formerly carried Route 7 over the railroad.
