Estate home designed in the French Manor style c. 1926 by Carrère & Hastings for William Deering Howe {capitalist, financier} on originally 19 acres. Howe served as president of Transair and director of Chemical Bank & Trust Co. Howe was also an heir to the International Harvesting Company; his father lived at "Linden Hill" in Brookville. The firm Carrère and Hastings was known especially for their design of Long Island estates like "Burwood", "Bagatelle", "Knole", and "Templeton" among others. A portion of the estate's land was sold to the Tam O' Shanter Country Club.

In 1959, the main home became part of Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School's 32-acre campus.
