Vandranthangal is a more than a hundred-years-old village. Well known in the surrounding area for its Gangaiamman festival. The Gangaiamman temple recently celebrated the centenary, having been in existence since early 1900's. Once a fertile village, the three irrigation tanks surrounding it have long dried up!

Meaning of the name 'Vandranthangal': 'Vandranthangal' = 'vandhu' + 'aram' + 'thangal'. Does that make sense to you? It seems the loose translation of these words means (a place that) welcomes (thangal) you to come (vandhu) and enjoy its hospitality (aram).

(If any body can translate better, please do so, and kindly leave your name, without deleting the above translation!)

There are two hills that you can climb for fun and adventure: the 'Esraan malai'(the cone shaped hill standing separately in the west-west-north direction), the 'Bhaktaneyar malai'(in the north-west direction) that is far taller (whose peak is about 1800 feet height). This peak is exactly north of Esraan malai, 2.4 km in a straight line from the peak tip of Esraan malai. Though the Bhaktaneyar malai looks intimidating, there is a walkway path between the Esraan malai, and the ridge running in south-north direction.
