  This is a place that time seems to have forgotten, government has scarcely cared about, and opportunity has eluded for many of its residents. There is not even a major grocery store for miles of this area, only corner markets. As a Newport News native I know this area very well, now I live elsewhere. For most of the history of the city this area has been troubled by poverty and crime, but I pray that one day the people here will rebuild their community as a strong and healthy place. May God bless the residents of the East End and smile on this community. And I understand yet disagree with the "nothing good happens here" statement, many of my mentors and defining experiences happened in the East End, so thank God for this place.
