village, dock (maritime), portage

The Williams family has operated a portage service between Cook inlet and Iliamna lake for commercial fishing boats since the 1930's. Once the boats are hauled over a 15-mile road and put back in the water at Pile Bay on Iliamna Lake, they can then take the Kvichak River to Bristol Bay, saving over 1,000 miles of sea travel.
