  • Hotel Ahura is my favourite hotel where I always stop and have lunch while on the way by road to Sanjan and Nargol in Gujarat, or during my return to Mumbai. The food is excellent and there is plenty of variety. While being an eating place owned and run by Zoroastrian Iranis of Dahanu, it serves not only Parsi dishes but also various other types of cuisine, and has a large menu with several choices for a variety of palates. The restaurant is strategically located and well laid out, with a spacious general dining room with big tables, and a smaller air-conditioned dining room. The general dining room has large open windows and is thus quite airy; thus the ambiance is very congenial to enjoying a most satisfying meal with family and friends. The place is well frequented, being often full of patrons, specially on weekends. The food prices are quite reasonable, and at the cash counter are stocked a large number of bottled takeaway items like dhansak masala, various types of biscuits, etc. These are prepared at the owner family's farm as Dahanu and are carefully labelled with data on nutrition information, etc., which inspires much confidence in the quality of the various foods. Moreover, the latter are thoughtfully packed in plastic jars with screw caps, which makes their purchases all the more desirable to the housewife as they are reusable and do no break like glass containers would. My family and I highly recommend Hotel Ahura to travellers seeking refreshments, meals and some rest while in transit. Hoshang Dastoor hdastoor@vsnl.com
