Originally the site of Whippoorwill Farm built by Dr. Jared Potter Kirtland in 1839, the property became controversial in the early 1950s when preservationist tried to stop the rezoning of the land to prevent the construction of a Kroger store. Despite their efforts, Krogers was successful in 1953. The store later became a Finast and a Giant Eagle. It remains vacant after Giant Eagle relocated across the street.
