Chennai central is also known as Madras central, was built in 1873 A.D at Park town as second terminal to decongest the erstwhile Royapuram harbour station which was being utilized for port movements. Madras central was built in the gothic revival style by George Hardinge and consisted just four platforms. The station was later modified with addition of a central clock and other changes by Robert Fellows Chisholm. The redesign was completed in 1900. Now the Chennai central has 11 platforms.
