Taking place on May 28th-29th, 1982, the Battle of Goose Green was an engagement of the Falklands War between British and Argentinian forces.
While the hamlet of Goose Green had little strategic value to the overall British aim of recapturing the capital Stanley, it's proximity to the British beachhead at San Carlos and the significant amount of Argentinian forces based there prompted an assault which began at 0230hrs on May 28th. After almost 20hrs of fierce fighting, Argentinian Forces were presented with an order to surrender which clearly stated British intentions to bombard Darwin and Goose Green if the offer was refused.
Electing to spare the lives of his isolated and ill-supplied Garrison, Argentinian Lieutenant-Colonel Italo Piaggi surrendered his 961-man force at 0830hrs on March 29th.
