Lewiston-Queenston Bridge

USA / New York / Lewiston /

One of three vehicular bridges spanning the Niagara River Gorge and the US-Canadian Border, the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge opened for traffic on November 1st, 1962. Built as a replica of the Rainbow Bridge located further up the river, the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge spans 1000ft of the Niagara River and Gorge with a roadbed height of 370ft above the rapids below.

Awarded the American Institute of Steel Construction's award as the most beautiful bridge of the year 1962, the bridge carries lanes five of US Interstate 190 and Canadian Highway 405 across the border to matching immigration entry point plazas on either side of the river. The bridges five lanes can be used in either direction, allowing up to four lanes of traffic to be used in one direction during high volume periods.
