The Pine Needle LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) plant is used to liquefy and store natural gas during summer and off-peak periods and vaporize and distribute the stored gas during the peak winter demand periods. Placed into service in 1999, the Pine Needle LNG facility interconnects with the Transco gas pipeline at a point about a mile to the southeast.
