The Tate Modern in London is Britain's national museum of international modern art and is, with Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool, Tate St Ives, and Tate Online, part of the group now known simply as Tate.

This building used to be a power station and was for a long time scheduled for demolition until it found new life as the sister Gallery of the Tate Gallery.

The name Tate comes from Henry Tate, the sugar merchant from Tate and Lyle fame after he donated many works of art to the Tate Gallery.
