Blackfriars is a mainline and underground station built in 1886. The station will have been totally rebuilt by 2012 with new longer platforms spanning the length of the widened Blackfriars railway bridge with a new ticket hall on the South Bank.
The mainline platforms serve the Thameslink line which links the Midland Main line (and after the Thameslink uprgade programme is complete, the East Coast Main Line) to south London, particularly the Brighton Main Line. The underground platforms serve the Circle and District lines.
