  Colonel Thomas Swope was kind enough to give the city of Kansas City a huge tract of land which later became Swope Park..one of the largest metro parks in the USA. At that time some thought the park was "too far out in the country" but it sure isnt now..is it? Kansas City was and is lucky to have such civic minded citizens as Colonel Swope. Swope Park is also the home of the famous Starlight Theater.
