The Natural Food Company (later the Shredded Wheat Company) began manufacturing Shredded Wheat (now Post Shredded Wheat) here in 1908 as a second plant to one located elsewhere in town. National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) bought Shredded Wheat Company in 1928, and kept it open. Even though the last Shredded Wheat making here ended in 1993 (with the sale of the brand to Kraft General Foods), Nabisco Brands continued to maintain the factory (it made Triscuits). But in 2001, Nabisco Brands was merged into the same company it sold Shredded Wheat to (Kraft Foods, of course), and the plant was closed that year, cutting 200 jobs and ending a century-old relationship.

Along with the connected warehouse across the street (considered part of the facility), it remains vacant and is a potential redevelopment site.
