 office building, skyscraper

391-footk 33-story International-style office building completed in 1972. Designed by Emery Roth & Sons, it is clad in black granite and glass. The east and west facades are organized into five bays, and the narrower north and south facades have three. The triple-height openings at the base are slightly recessed, with shallow segmental-arched tops. Each bay at the base has large, tripartite glass infill, with the ground floor separated by a horizontal black spandrel band. The main entrance is in the south bay on the avenue, with a revolving door flanked by traditional glass doors; the other bays have storefront show-windows. Besides the lobby, the entire 3-story base is occupied by Aston Martin, with its main entrance through the east bay on 57th Street, via glass double-doors. There is a small public plaza at the west end.

The 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, 20th, 24th, 28th, & 32nd floors have 4-pane window bands in each bay, segmental-arched across the top and bottom of each bay, creating oblong lozenge shapes. The 3-floor groups in between each of these floors have the same pattern, with arched tops and bottoms, only spanning three floors instead of one. The 16th floor is a mechanical floor and has metal vents in place of window panes. Another mechanical floor above the 32nd has two large vents per bay.
