office building, skyscraper
449-foot, 40-story postmodern office building completed in 1989. Designed by Swanke Hayden Connell, it is faced in glass, steel, limestone, and brick. The 15-story open-air entry atrium at the east end was remodeled in 2016-2017 by Kohn Pedersen Fox, with bright white granite walls and grey granite flooring. A glass wall and revolving doors on the west side of the atrium lead into the lobby, also renovated in white and grey granite. While the entry atrium is slightly recessed, the rest of the north facade extends to the building line, with a 2-story limestone base, four bays wide, on a granite water table. There are large, multi-paned restaurant storefronts in the three eastern bays, and an entrance to the underground parking garage in the narrower western bay. The 2nd floor has triple-windows flanked by single-windows in the two middle bays, and double-windows flanked by single-windows in the two outer bays.
The upper floors have bands of dark-tinted windows alternating with bands of reddish-brown brick. At each end, the brick bands have five horizontal projecting lines. The 15th floor mirrors the fenestration pattern of the 2nd floor, and has a setback to the level of the top of the atrium. The top floors of the tower are larger, with the east end supported by the piers of the atrium below. These floors continue the alternating window and brick band pattern. There is another setback above the 28th floor, and the top floor is clad in limestone with bands of red brick at the top and bottom. It has five bays, with single-windows flanking triple-windows in the three middle bays, a double-window in the west bay, and a 4-window group in the east bay.
Above the atrium, the east facade matches that of the north, with three bays at the top floor - the northern one has a triple-window, while the other two have 4-window groups; none have the flanking single-windows seen on the north facade. The west facade is similar, but narrower, with two bays at the top floor (one triple-window and one 4-window group). This wider east elevation is due to the south facade's east end projecting further out. The window bands continue around this projection and also on the west end. The middle of the south facade is a red brick field with one central bay of single-windows, flanked by smaller, horizontal, grey metal vents. The ground floor is occupied by Bobby Van's Grill.
