Part of Vilnius, situated along river Neris bend. Core of Žvėrynas eldership. Žvėryras is distinguished for low-leveled buildings, narrow streets, sumptuous parcels. During 16th - mid 19th century Žvėrynas belonged to noblemen Radvila family. The word "Žvėrynas" came from beast hunting preserve which belonged to noblemen family. A summerhouse, which was later used by the Vilnius general-govenor, was built in 1825. Žvėrynas during 19th century was called "Aleksandria". At the end of 19th century Žvėrynas was sold. In July 2nd, 1901 was subordinated to Vilnius city, Russian tsar comfirmed the connection in February 12, 1902.
