This area in Šnipiškės district, along the right bank of the Neris River is probably the most commercially developed area in Vilnius city. Already singled out in Soviet period as industrial and recreational area. From the 21th century, the area was extensively built, declared as priority area of Vilnius. Nearby old buildings high-rise buildings and shopping malls appeared. Europa Tower built in 2004, is highest tower in the Baltic countries, the downtown settled the new Vilnius City Municipality administration building, the big number of agencies and offices. The reconstructed Konstitucijos Avenue has become an important transport artery of the city, the area along the right bank of the river Neris was restored. In addition to a pedestrian Baltasis (White) bridge was announced the Guggenheim Museum building project.
However Šeskinė development project caused much debate. Build skyscrapers were criticized by UNESCO experts, because they are visible from the Old Town, declared a World Heritage site. The expansion of downtown forced adjacent Šanchajus (Shanghai) neighborhood population to move out. The number of mysterious arson has increased. Deserted area instead of taking the construction of new office buildings.
