Ruby's Diner and the Ruby's restaurant chain is a Newport Beach, California based business with restaurants throughout the U.S. and Hawaii. Based on the inspiration of Doug Cavanaugh after an evinging jog by the Newport beach pier, a quintesential 40's diner has red vinyl seats, chrome-lined tables and waitresses in little candy-striper uniforms came to life. The fare is predominantly hamburgers, fries and milkshakes, but they have also traditional diner food, ala southwest - salads, meatloaf, soups, tacos, and fish.
What started as nostalgia is a now multi-state chain restaurant appealing to America's love of Americana in simplier times. A focus on local historical and cultural tradition is incorporated into each diner.
The Huntington Beach Pier location is in a two-story building with beautiful views of the coast and Catalina island. This used to be the location of "The End Cafe", which was here from the 1940's through to 1983 when a storm knocked it down. Shortly afterward, another cafe "The End Cafe II" was built and subsequently knocked down by another storm just a few years later.
If you have more history of "The End Cafe" and of the Huntington Beach pier, please post it here. Thank-you.
