123 William Street

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / William Street, 123
 office building, skyscraper

364-foot, 26-story International-style office building completed in 1957. Designed by Emery Roth & Sons, it spans a mid-block site, fronting on both William and Dutch Streets. The main facade, on William Street, has a 2-story base of pink granite with six recessed bays. The two center bays make up the main entrance, and are even further recessed, lined with glass, white panels, and aluminum framing. The column dividing the two bays is also sheathed in white metal panels, in contrast to the granite of the other piers. The upper floors have a curtain wall of windows alternating with darker, green-tinted glass spandrels and narrow metal framing.

On the rear facade, the ground floor is lined with loading docks. The walls are clad in beige brick, with horizontal bands of windows separated by metal mullions at each floor. The north and south elevations at the higher floors have this same cladding system. On both main facades, there is a setback above the 10th floor, followed by a series of numerous other small setbacks, giving a terraced effect up to the last major setback, above which a 2-story mechanical penthouse tops the roof. The ground floor on William Street is occupied by BentOn Cafe, in addition to the lobby.
