 office building  Add category

297-foot, 22-story modernist office building completed in 1972, renovated in 1996. Designed by Emery Roth & Sons, it features a rare (for a skyscraper) grey slate facade. The other predominant feature is the 2-story-high open-air arcade that runs diagonally through the building from the cut corner at Platt and William Streets to the far eastern of the John Street elevation's four bays. There are also four bays on Platt Street, with two on William (as well as the angled corner bay). The interior of the arcade running through the base is faced with windows similar to those on the outer facade, and lined by a series of lighted square columns. The 2-story bays of the base have black metal and glass infill.

Above are wide horizontal bays. The 3rd floor bays are recessed from the slate facade, as are the bays of the base. From the 4th floor on, each bay has a band of flush, dark-tinted glass. The two mechanical floors at the 13th & 14th stories also have recessed bays. An underground parking garage is access from the second-from-easternmost bay on Platt Street, with a freight loading dock in the easternmost bay. The ground floor is occupied by John Street Florist, and a Citibank branch.
