Approximately 8 1/2 square kilometers of forest. Drainage area for Verdi Dam reservoir. As of March, 2011, construction of Virdi dam by the Maharashtra government in the border area with Goa, is being carried out on war footing despite opposition from the Goa state. The dam would be 600 metres in length with a height of 48 metres.

The dam, if constructed at the present site, would affect the water resource of the Valvanti river and it would be difficult to maintain the availability of required water for Podashe water treatment plant at Sanquelim from where the drinking water is supplied to Pale, Bicholim and Bardez. www.navhindtimes.in/goa-news/virdi-dam-project-work-war...
