Glasgow’s legendary flea market which was started by Irish immigrants in the 19th Century, where they sold second hand clothing to the poor of Glasgow. This daily market by the railway arches gives you a real idea of an almost extinct traditional way of shopping for some Glaswegians.

Well, that is the posh version.

Plenty of genuine second hand stuff for sale.
Also, plenty of duty free fags, hash, porn, knocked off goods etc.

The city bus tours of Glasgow drive by it, but the guide always tells the passengers to look across the river to the sheriff court, averting the eyes of the visitors.

Its reputation for crime (both the fraudulent and sadly in latter years - the violent sort) would ultimately seal its fate, and the market lost its fight for survival and was closed down by Glasgow City Council in 2009.
