5-story mercantile building originally completed about 1869 as a warehouse fronting Trinity Place, and a separate warehouse structure fronting Broadway completed sometime in the mid-1800s. By the early 1880s, the two were connected by a 2-story extension in the middle of the block. In 1900, the extension was also raised to five floors, and a connection was made to the two neighboring buildings to the north (which have a similar history).

A new facade was built in 1907 by Westervelt & Austin for 47 Broadway (along with 49 Broadway to the north, but its top three floors were later removed). The Broadway facade of No. 47 now has modern storefronts on the lower two floors, with the 3rd floor obscured by a sign for TGI Fridays (located on the Trinity Place side of the building). The top two floors have 3-bay-wide cast-iron framed windows, and a beige brick parapet on top. The ground floor is occupied by El Toro-Tees souvenirs, with China Chalet restaurant on the 2nd floor. The exposed north facade is blank brick.

The Trinity Place facade has a red brick ground floor. The upper floors are blue-painted brick, with the 2nd floor obscured by a TGI Friday's sign. The top two floors each have four rectangular windows with stone sills, while at the 3rd floor, these have been replaced by a large 4-paned studio window. The facade is capped by a modest cornice with narrow modillions.
