On the lower plateau of the city, sheltered by the Clock Tower, rises Dominican Monastery Church, mentioned documentary since 1298 - when Pope Bonifacius the Eighth grant an indulgence of 40 days to the believers who attended the service of the church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary in Schespurch town. Initially, the north-east of the city was occupied entirely by the two monasteries of Dominican Order monks and nuns. Except this one church, they were demolished in 1886 to build the Administration Palace.
From 1550, after secularization of monasteries, Dominicans are obliged to leave Sighisoara, and the church is taken by the city council. Since then, monastery church became the main evangelical church of the Sighisoara Community.
