International Monitoring System, infrasound monitoring site

One of eight array elements of the infrasound station at Ascension Island. The station is part of the International Monitoring System, a global network of facilities for detecting violations of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). The array picks up low-frequency sound from such sources as nuclear test explosions, volcano eruptions, and bolides. The collected information is processed at the Central Processing Facility at Travellers Hill and sent to the CTBTO International Data Centre in Vienna. Completed in 2004, the array comprises four lower-frequency elements L1–L4 and four higher-frequency elements H1–H4.
