Fortress Koningshooikt

Fortress Koningshooikt is one of the 32 fortifications belonging to the 95 Km. long outer defending girdle around Antwerp.
build in 1906. along with 10 new fortresses and 12 entrenchment as a new defense line to prevent that Antwerp could be bombed by cannons with larger firing range.
1940 the fortress is not fully operational and in Oktober heavily shelled by the artillery of the Germans. The fortress was considered lost and abandoned the next day when both ammunition depots where hit.
1939 fortress Koningshooikt is embedded in the KW-line.
Today the fortress is known for its motocross circuit.
