  • Sagarmatha: The name that's given to this mountain by Nepali people means the forehead of the sky in Nepali. Chomolungma (sometimes also spelt with a Q instead of a C): Name given by the local ethnic group of Sagarmatha Zone. I am not sure if its a a Tibetian word. But the Sherpas tell me that it means Godess of the Sky. (The Mother Godess of the Earth !!!). 8848 m . (Peppeto) If you didn't know Sagarmatha is also the Highest Mountain in the world and in turn the higest point on the Earth.
  • Mount Everest or Qomolangma or Sagarmatha (सगरमाथा) or Chomolungma (ཇོ་མོ་གླང་མ) pronounced as (Jongmalunga) is the highest mountain on Earth, as measured by the height of its summit above sea level. The mountain, which is part of the Himalaya range in High Asia, is located on the border between Nepal and Tibet, China. As of the end of the 2006 climbing season, there have been 3,050 ascents to the summit, by 2,062 individuals, and 203 people have died on the mountain. The conditions on the mountain are so difficult that most of the corpses have been left where they fell; some of them are easily visible from the standard climbing routes.

  • Very tall mountain, if you get lost its basically instant death if you can't find your group. Imagine....you fall 100 feet and break your legs...in the middle of a storm...winds raging at 70 mph. You're dead, never gonna make it, just pray and hope you got luck kid. In a place as wondrous as Everest a single misstep could throw you from the mountain or into the farrest reaches of the actual mountain. Snow and the cold can rip you to pieces from losing everything you have, fingers, a nose, lips, and anything unprotected can be frozen solid. P.S. The unprotected part above, imagine going to the bathroom. Ha!

  • esok nok gi naik
  • The outline of the mountain is drawn at the 8,000 meter level. The elevation of the peak is increasing about 2 centimeters a year due to the Indian Plate diving under the Eurasian Plate.
  • Here is just the peak Jomolungma: http://wikimapia.org/#lat=27.9889437&lon=86.9294286&z=15&l=0&m=b&show=/5730152/Everest-Peak-8848-m
  • This is where all the amateurs with big pockets go. Mt.Everest is a circus now, you see all the muppets getting dragged up by experienced guides, sometimes they fall, sometimes they don't. Its become a joke really.
  • Above comment is true. Only idiots with no experience wanting to show off and make a point to others climb this mountain by getting guided up. Pretty sad if you think about it but then, that's what money makes people do...
  • Per above comments dismissing climbing Everest as a joke: read "Into Thin Air" - Jon Krakaur - to see what a "joke" you are talking about. BTW what exactly are the credentials of all those spouting off? - typical internet pundits.
