This nondescript mountain peak contained unusual soil which allowed a rare plant to grow, a type of ground sage which is not found anywhere else in the world. nnThrough some mistaken attempt to correct invasion in the park by invader species, in 1993, State biologists burned it. After the fires were brought under control and damage to park wildlife was assessed, they gloated about how great a job they did destroying all the "invader" plants. In fact they destroyed mostly native plants which had nearly succeeded in recovering from the non-native plant invasion. Some of the sage plants survived but their fate is unknown. The state biologists are not known to have recognized the plants were there as they were ground hugging and not easily recognized from the window of the 4WD they "surveyed" the park flora from. Witnesses and residents objected to the actions of the state wildlife biologists but no charges were filed.
