The building was constructed in 1889 as prestigious rental property.
The architect was S.S.Eibushitts.

On the Kremlin Quay side there were inhabited apartments, and on the Lenivka Street side there were offices and non-food merchant warehouses, and on Lenivka Lane there was a vodka distillery.

In a court yard of the same building in 1913 was constructed a «cinematograph and a theater of miniatures" belonging to P.G.Solodovnikov, the son of the well-known merchant G.G.Solodovnikov (the architect With. M.Goncharov).

In the summer of 1918 there was located here the so-called «Theater of the People», in which took place performance meetings, that is, during the theatrical performance there was also a meeting on the same set, «the meeting is entered into the play» as was explained in the newspaper. In the end of 1918 during one season E. B. Vakhtangov worked in the Theater of the People.
