Greek-revival style Roman Catholic Church completed in 1840. It is the oldest Catholic church building in the city. Designed by John R. Haggerty and Thomas Thomas, it is composed of grey granite. The wide front steps lead up to six imposing Ionic columns supporting a large triangular pediment topped by a cross. The front (north-facing) wall is deeply-recessed, with three bays of brass-framed doors. On the west elevation there are six very tall multi-paned stained-glass windows with stone sills above the raised basement level, each with a smaller square window above it. The stone cornice wraps around the roof line.

Over the main altar is The Crucifixion painting by the Mexican artist Jose Vallejo. The painting was given in 1789 to St. Peter's by Archbishop Nunez de Haro of Mexico City.
