The "Denkmalsturm" Memorial Tower was a construction of the old cemetery in Gușteriței Hill of the German heroes who fell in the Battle of Sibiu in the First World War, later the tombstones were moved to the war memorial inside the fortified church in Cisnadioara.
Construction of the tower (officially "Denkmalsturm") began in the spring of 1918 and was completed in September of that year. The construction works were carried out under the leadership of Lieutenant Major Plattner of the German army, according to the plans of the architect Karl Ulrich. The population of Sibiu County sponsored the construction through personal contributions between 1917-1918.
It is known locally as the ''Monument'' ,''at the Monument'' or simply ''the tower on Gusteritei Hill''.
The tower and the surrounding platform has been renovated by the City Hall during 2019.
