John Street Methodist Church (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / New York City, New York / John Street, 44
 church, landmark

Neo-Georgian/Anglo-Italianate-style Methodist church completed in 1841. Designed by William Hurry and/or Philip Embury, it is faced in brownstone. Its central feature is an extremely handsome Palladian window placed directly above the broad main entrance door. Flanking this doorway are two elongated, round-arched windows; the top of the arches of these two windows relate both in size and height with the Palladian window. The roof line is marked by a broad triangular pediment enframing a broad, low-arched window. The side walls are both clad in red brick.

This is the third church located at this site. It is the home of the oldest Methodist congregation in North America, founded on October 12, 1766.
It was designated a New York City Landmark in 1964.
